Mr. David Adams Richards promotes a new play at the Fredericton Public Library tonight (Feb 19).

His acclaimed novels, usually set in small towns, feature large emotions, family ties tethers, and people working through life alone together.

1 | A man lives within the constraints of repressed anger or violence since his childhood when he pushed a friend off a roof. Therefore, neighbours in his small town constantly bully him and his children, leading one into destructiveness.

2 | A man, returning from military service, ventures into a small town where he is unaccepted and disrespected by the town authorities. To regain , he fights back, causing widespread catastrophe.

3 | A man, after fighting through a rocky upbringing in his small town, becomes a millionaire at 25 and eventually the world’s most powerful news baron. Despite his constant support of England during World World II, he continually could not achieve acceptance with the British upper class.

4 | A man is acquitted of murder and returns home to his small town. However, he takes in an escaped prisoner to keep this enemy closer. His guidance leads to tragedy.
